About

Leandro Junes, smiling at the camera, seated at a vintage Compaq desktop computer.

I am a Professor of Mathematics at PennWest University. My research is in number theory, combinatorics, and algebra, with a focus on Fibonacci-type sequences, combinatorial structures, and divisibility.

I founded and direct international undergraduate research groups with students in the United States and Colombia. Their work has contributed to dozens of peer-reviewed publications, research awards, and conference presentations.

I received the FPDC Research Merit Award (2016) and the FPDC Teaching Merit Award (2017) at California University of Pennsylvania, now PennWest University, and earlier the John J. Duffy Excellence in Teaching Award at the University of South Carolina.

I earned my Ph.D. in Mathematics from Binghamton University, after graduate study at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and undergraduate study at the Universidad de Antioquia. I am also interested in computation as a tool for mathematical discovery, including cryptography, mathematical visualization, and interactive tools.

Mathematics + Computation

I use computation as a tool for exploring patterns, testing conjectures, and understanding the structures behind them.
